Before & After Gallery About Beard Transplants What is a beard transplant?Beard transplants create full, natural-looking facial hair that you can style however you want. Using the FUE or FUT hair transplant technique, a beard transplant involves lifting clusters of hair follicles from a donor site on your scalp, and implanting them in the patchy areas of your beard.Whether you want a bushy beard or stylish stubble, a beard transplant is a great way to create your ideal look. How does a beard transplant work?First, your beard and donor areas will be numbed with local anaesthetic. You may also be given a sedative to make the process more comfortable. The surgeon extracts small groups of hair follicles from your donor area. If you have an FUE procedure, this is carried out using a micro punch. The punch leaves small wounds, which heal smoothly and quickly without scarring. In an FUT procedure, a strip of skin will be removed and sectioned into individual hair grafts. The donor site is stitched up after the procedure, leaving a small scar. FUE is the most popular technique, since it leaves less scarring and requires minimal downtime. When the grafts have been prepared, the surgeon makes small incisions in your beard bald patches and implants the follicle clusters. Each graft is positioned with precision to ensure it follows your natural hairline. Why choose a beard transplant?Beard transplants give you permanent, natural-looking resultsChoose from advanced FUE or FUT techniques to restore your facial hairYour beard will look dense and full from just 6 monthsCreate more styling options for your facial hair1 day surgical procedure with no overnight stayOur beard transplant success rate is 97 to 100% See Our Clinic Locations 2024, 2023, 2022 & 2021 WINNER Hair Transplant Clinic of the Year Corporate Live Wire LONDON & SOUTH EAST PRESTIGE AWARDS General beard transplant FAQs 1. Is a beard transplant right for me? Beard transplants work for those with sparse or patchy beard hair growth. FUE beard transplants offer speedy recovery and minimal downtime compared with FUT, as well as a lower chance of scarring.A successful beard transplant depends on taking healthy hair follicles from your scalp or another donor site, so if you have extensive hair loss, you might not be eligible. 2. Is a beard transplant painful? The local anaesthetic helps keep any pain to a minimum. In fact, most patients agree that hair transplants hurt less than they anticipate. Painkillers will help reduce any soreness you feel after surgery. 3. When will I see results from my beard transplant? Immediately after your procedure, you’ll be able to see your new beard hairline. 2-3 months later, you’ll start to see initial growth, followed by final results around 12 months after your procedure. 4. Are beard transplants permanent? Yes. Both FUE and FUT beard transplants create long-lasting facial hair that you can trim, shape, or style however you want. Minoxidil and other solutions can also stimulate and maintain a thick, full beard. 5. Can beard transplants treat alopecia barbae? Alopecia barbae is a type of alopecia areata that specifically affects the neck and face. It’s an autoimmune condition, so a beard transplant won’t normally work for this type of hair loss. However, there are treatments available. Ben Leitch's Beard Transplant Review Well, what can I say?… From start to finish I’ve experienced nothing but a fantastic service from all of the staff at Wimpole Clinic.I initially had a consultation at the clinic in Harley Street with Matt regarding a beard transplant. He was very friendly and talked me through the procedure, aftercare and answered any other questions I had.On the day of the procedure I arrived at 07:30 and was greeted by Matt, who again assisted in answering any questions I had, and provided an outline for the day. I was then moved to the operating room where I was greeted by Dr. Ahmad Moussa and his technician, Az, to start the design aspect of the beard. All design comments and suggestions were listened to and discussed to ensure the most realistic outcome.Once the procedure was underway with Dr. Ahmad, I was constantly made to feel relaxed, taken care of and valued. I was never treated like just another patient, which made a lot of difference (considering I’ve never had any type of surgery before). He is a true professional and such a lovely man – I can’t thank him enough for how he helped with my initial anxiety. After the hair grafts (1400-1500) were extracted, sorted and the incisions were made, both the technicians (Az and Ingrid) placed the grafts into place. They were also outstanding and were constantly checking in with me throughout the procedure, which took approximately 7 hours. It’s day 4 after the procedure now and I can honestly say that the results are coming along nicely and the aftercare is top notch (thanks again Matt for checking in).All in all, I’d recommend Wimpole and their staff to anyone who would be looking for a FUE beard transplant. They’re amazing! Read More Testimonials Before & After Gallery What Beard Transplant Results Can I Expect? Book A Free Consultation Who isn’t eligible for a beard transplant? A beard transplant can be transformative for many men, but not everyone is eligible. You may not be a suitable candidate for a beard transplant if: Your beard hair loss is patchy and prone to spontaneous regrowth You may have alopecia barbae, which isn’t usually treatable with a beard transplant. You don’t have enough donor hair to complete the procedure This may be the case if you’ve used up your graft supply in previous hair transplants. You’re not in good general health Beard transplants are minimally invasive, but you still need to be healthy enough to endure the procedure and recovery period. Book a consultation to find out if you’re eligible for a beard transplant. Beard transplant risks and side effectsBeard transplant patients can expect to see certain side effects after their procedure. These include bleeding, weeping, and swelling around the donor and recipient sites; pain and itchiness; scabbing; and temporary hair shedding. These side effects are normal, but speak to your clinic if you have any concerns. Beard transplant surgery also carries some risks that need medical attention, such as infection. If you develop a fever, pain that’s getting worse, wounds that aren’t healing as expected, or skin discolouration, seek advice from your clinic. If you have FUT surgery, there’s also a small risk that your stitches may reopen after surgery. Let your clinic know if you see any unexpected bleeding from the donor area. Is FUE or FUT best for your beard? Beard transplants can be performed using either FUE or FUT, and both can achieve equally good results. However, some patients may be more suited to one technique over the other.FUE involves extracting grafts individually, and leaves virtually no visible scarring. FUT requires the removal of a strip of skin which is then divided into individual grafts. The wound in your donor area is stitched up, leaving a narrow scar. The best option for you depends on several factors, including your donor hair texture, how many grafts you need (and how many you have available), and your tolerance for scarring. FUE tends to be recommended for patients who need a low to medium number of grafts, and those who are concerned about scarring. FUT may be more suitable for those with Afro-textured hair (as it’s less likely to damage the grafts on extraction) and those who need significant graft volumes. Complementary therapies A beard transplant is the most effective way to restore permanent beard hair loss, as well as filling in patchy areas that have never had much growth. But some additional treatments may help boost beard growth alongside FUT or FUE surgery. Medical therapy Minoxidil is a topical hair loss treatment that stimulates blood flow in the area to which it’s applied. This can help promote facial hair growth when applied to the beard area. PRP therapy PRP hair therapy involves injecting platelet-rich plasma from your own blood into your beard area, which can promote cell proliferation and improve facial hair growth. Tretinoin cream A topical derivative of vitamin A, tretinoin is a cream that can help boost beard density when applied regularly. Beard transplant results timeline Find out what to expect during beard transplant recovery in this week-by-week results timeline. Week 1 You’ll need to get plenty of rest the first week after a beard transplant. The first week can be a bit uncomfortable, so you’ll receive everything you need to make the initial recovery process more bearable. Follow your aftercare advice carefully to optimise healing and promote scab formation during the first week. Week 2 By week two, scabs will have formed and you’ll focus on safe scab removal. Your clinic will give you special instructions for washing your hair and beard. This will help the scabs come away safely without dislodging the grafts. By the end of the second week, most of the scabs should have come off. If you’ve had FUT, your stitches will also come away by this point (either through dissolving or removal at the clinic). Week 3-4 Most of the discomfort should be over by now, and you can get back to normal. Your face and scalp may still feel a bit tender. You may also start to see your transplanted grafts shedding their hair around this time. Don’t worry — this is a normal part of recovery, and your grafts should start to produce new hair in a few weeks. Week 5-12 Your donor and recipient areas should have completely healed around a month after your procedure. Beard hair shedding can continue for a few weeks, but this period is otherwise mostly uneventful. Your beard will probably look the same way it did before your surgery, but you can promote healthy future growth by living a healthy lifestyle. Week 12-24 From the third month onwards, your beard transplant will start to grow. From months three to six, your beard will start to thicken in the transplanted areas. Trim your beard regularly to help new growth blend into your existing hair. Hair in your donor area should have regrown substantially. Week 24-52 Initial growth develops into final results from six to 12 months after your beard transplant. Around 12 months after your beard transplant, your final results will become visible (though it can take up to 18 months for some people). At the Wimpole Clinic, you’ll be invited to regular reviews at the clinic so we can monitor your progress and ensure you’re on the right track. Our Surgeons Are Registered, Members Of, Or Recommended By: B. Bush's Beard Transplant Review Having a cosmetic procedure was a big decision for me, and I spent weeks researching clinics and the doctors who practised at them. But what made the final decision easier for me was James Walton. Within hours of submitting an enquiry form he had arranged an initial video call (as I was unable to travel to London) and we discussed what was possible. There was no hard sell, just a conversation, and he then left it with me to decide. Running my own business, the speed of his response and the friendly manner this was done in sold it for me. Having contacted various other clinics, which I am sure are all just as good, the response time just wasn’t there for me. After sitting on the idea, I decided this was the right choice both for my self esteem which had taken a blow and the clinic choice. The next call with James involved Dr Luciano, who he suggested was the best choice for a beard transplant. Dr Luciano gave a more detailed breakdown of what was possible and how long the procedure would take. With COVID in play, I would have preferred a face-to-face, but the video call was super helpful and with his calm manner and confidence that was the decision made. In the build-up to the procedure, James would be in touch on important dates and on the morning of the procedure met me half an hour before we started to talk through the plan for the day. Dr Luciano then spent a good 45-50 minutes before beginning the process, talking about shape and ideas and what to expect and what would be possible in the time we had. Bili, Caroline and Eva were all on hand throughout the day assisting Dr Luciano with the grafts. They were all so lovely, friendly and attentive. The team have a great bond which was clear from the off. Nothing was too much trouble for them even though the procedure was a long day. I’ll be forever thankful to the whole team. It’s now been 3 days since the procedure. The shape looks fantastic, even with the swelling, although it will be time before I realise the end result. And James continues to stay in touch to monitor progress. There is no doubt the whole team are passionate about their jobs and the end results, and I would highly recommend considering them for the same or similar treatments.
